The Raijin takes its name from Shinto’s fearsome god of lightning and thunder and is the twin of our Fujin set. It is designed primarily with regular practice in mind, but is also appropriate for shiai, degeiko and examinations. The 4mm stitching remains protective, but favours durability over long periods of use. The bogu is reinforced with Orizashi ornamentation instead of synthetic leather so it is highly breathable – this is great if you train in a very humid climate or practice many times a week. The use of fit-stitching increases the comfort of this set so even though it is not as padded as the Fujin it is easy to wear. Finally the whole set is subtly finished with beautiful inden decorations of tonbo dragonflies across the leather of the kote and mimikawa.

The Raijin is great for a kendoka looking for a lasting investment as its 4mm stitch intervals protect it against the prolonged wear and tear of training. It is not recommended for repeated practice as a motodachi as it is not as cushioned as the Fujin. It comes with all its himo, a tenegui and free international shipping as standard.

I've had this set for almost a year and a half now, and I still love it. It is also my first bogu set. I was afraid at first that the kote would not last because of the micro-punching, but I was wrong. There are still no holes in them and they are perfectly fine. The men, the tare and the do are also very good quality.
