“The width of the stitching on a Bogu's Futon is something that has been the subject of great debate for some time. Until recently it was very popular for players to prefer close-stitch width, producing a rigid futon. This is without a doubt very durable, but the question of it's protection has been recently under scrutiny. The opposing theory is that softer, wider stitched Bogu offers more flexibility, and because it is cushioned it is thought to provide better protection. 
 
However, this Bogu provides what is effectively 'the best of both Worlds'. From a distance this Bogu looks like a hand-stitched set, with it's top quality features and Fukuro Nui Men-Dare. However, when you look closer you will notice that, not only is it machine stitched, but stitched in a new and innovative way. The stitching features 3 rows of 3mm stitching, a 6mm gap, and then a further 3 rows set at 3mm. 
 
When I tried the Bogu on, I realized that there are several advantages to this. The Futon is soft, and flexible and comfortable to wear, whilst at the same retaining it's durability. Also, this unique stitching provides the perfect level of 'cushioning', with the wider gaps producing tiny cushioned 'ridges' on the inside of the Futon.
 
As with our Yoshioka Bogu set, this Bogu takes advantage of modern technology, including 'I-Leather', which is lighter, quicker drying and more durable than other leathers. This Bogu is light, well constructed and dignified to look at, whilst at the same time providing the protection you require. All of this makes this unique Bogu perfect for Kendoka of all levels of ability.” - Andy Fisher, Miyako Kendogu.
