The shinai, even with a few centimeters cut off, is very tip heavy, a Tan-Ren Gata shinai indeed.
While the shinai takes some effort to wield effectively, the heavy tip actually facilitates strong and sharp strikes, which is something you might want in a tournament.
The only complain I have is that there's a slight inconsistency in the handle thickness, which can make the already heavy shinai even heavier, but for the purpose of the shinai, it's almost perfect.
